Veteran Singer Angie Stone Tragically Passes Away in Fatal Car Crash

Angie Stone tragically passed away March 1, following a fatal car crash. She was 63 years old.

Montgomery, AL – The music world is mourning the loss of legendary singer Angie Stone, who tragically passed away early Saturday morning following a fatal car crash. She was 63 years old.

According to her representative, Deborah R. Champagne, the accident occurred on Interstate 65 in Montgomery County, Alabama. Stone was among nine people traveling in a van, including her crew and backup singers, when the crash happened. Sadly, she was the only fatality.

Stone had just left a performance at the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association Grand Marshal’s Ball and was en route to another show at the CIAA basketball tournament in Baltimore when the tragedy struck.

Her daughter, Diamond, confirmed the heartbreaking news on Facebook, writing, “My mommy is gone,” followed by several crying emojis. She also asked for prayers for her and her family during this difficult time.

Born Angela Laverne Brown on December 18, 1960, in Columbia, South Carolina, Angie Stone rose to prominence in the late 1970s as a member of the all-female rap trio The Sequence, one of the first female rap groups to achieve mainstream success.

Stone later transitioned to R&B and neo-soul, making a significant impact with her sultry voice and heartfelt lyrics. She gained widespread recognition with albums like “Black Diamond” (1999), “Mahogany Soul” (2001), and “Stone Love” (2004), producing hit songs such as “No More Rain (In This Cloud),” “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” and “Brotha.”

Her music, often infused with themes of love, empowerment, and resilience, earned her three Grammy nominations and a devoted fanbase that spanned generations.

Beyond her music career, Stone was also an actress and songwriter, collaborating with artists like D’Angelo, Lenny Kravitz, and Alicia Keys.

A Loving Mother and Grandmother

Angie Stone is survived by her son Michael, daughter Diamond, and two grandchildren. She often spoke about the importance of family in her life, and her love for her children was evident in interviews and social media posts.

Rest in peace, Angie Stone.
