Playboi Carti dropped his highly anticipated album I Am MUSIC on Friday (March 14) to much fan hype and the numbers are already shaping up to be massive.
First-week sales projections are all over the map, but the buzz is undeniable. Early estimates suggest I Am Music could move anywhere from 250,000 to 400,000 album-equivalent units, with some social media speculation reaching as high as 800,000 units.
For context, his last album Whole Lotta Red debuted with 100,000 units, so this would mark a massive leap. Pre-sales alone reportedly hit 145,000 units within days of the announcement, fueled by Carti’s cult-like following and a rollout that included Spotify billboards and merch bundles flying off the shelves.
Streaming figures are expected to be the primary driver of sales, though physical copies are also performing well, with over 10,000 pure album sales recorded within 20 hours of pre-orders becoming available.
Regardless of whether “MUSIC” achieves the lower or higher end of the projected range, it is on track to become Playboi Carti’s most successful debut to date.
